QUALITY ASSURANCE IN BUSINESS EDUCATION IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES: STRATEGIES CONSIDERED EFFECTIVE
Abstract
This study was carried out to determine business educators’ rating of strategies considered to be effective for quality assurance in business education in South-South Nigerian Universities. Descriptive survey
design was used for the study. Sixty-eight business educators from the Universities in South-South Nigeria that offer business education constituted the population and sample for the study. Three research questions and three hypotheses was raised and tested. The study utilized a validated four point scale questionnaire with a reliability coefficient of 0.84 using Crombach Alpha analysis. Mean and standard deviation was used to analyze the data collected to answer the research questions while the hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance using 2-test statistics. It was found that proper moderation of examination questions, proper supervision of examinations, in-service education, standardized conferences and work-shops for staff, well equipped e-library for research and proper funding were rated as effective strategies for quality assurance in business education. It was therefore recommended among others that the entire strategies put in place for quality assurance in business education should be properly monitored and regularly appraised in terms of effective control to achieve the desired result.
