IMPROVING COMPETENCIES OF BUSINESS EDUCATION STUDENTS OF COLLEGES OF EDUCATION THROUGH EFFECTIVE STUDENTS’ INDUSTRIAL WORK EXPERIENCE SCHEME IN SOUTH–SOUTH STATES OF NIGERIA

Abstract


 

 

This study determined the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) related strategies for improving the competencies of Business Education students of Colleges of education in South-South states of Nigeria. A survey research design was used. The population for the study comprised 761 respondents and a sample size of 155 Business Education lecturers and industry-based supervisors was used in the nine Colleges of education and 12 industries in South-South states of Nigeria. The instrument used for data collection was structured questionnaire. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided this study. Mean with standard deviation was used for answering research questions while z-test was used to test the hypotheses of no significant difference at .05 level of significance. The study found out that related SIWES strategies improve the competencies of business education students of College of education in South-South states of Nigeria. Based on the findings and conclusion, these recommendations were made; that the institution should provide the necessary equipment and materials for the students to learn, industry-based supervisors should supervise and monitor students strictly during SIWES duty post.
