INFLUENCE OF NATIONAL BOARD FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION ACCREDITATION ON THE QUALITY OF ADMINISTRATION AND LEADERSHIP OF POLYTECHNIC OFFICE TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT PROGRAMMES

Abstract

The quality of administration and leadership is one of the major indices normally
assessed by the National Board for Technical Education in the course of accreditation of polytechnic Office Technology and Management programmes. Other indices include the quality of academic programme, staffing, physical and equipment and funding. This study sought to assess only the influence of NBTE accreditation on the administration and leadership of polytechnic Office Technology and Management programme. 175 polytechnic teachers in South-Western Nigeria constituted the study sample. A 30-item questionnaire based on the 5-ponit Likert-type rating scale was the research instrument. The research question was analyzed with mean rating and standard deviation while the hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance with ttest. The results showed that NBTE accreditation has had a strong positive influence on the quality of administration and leadership of polytechnic Office Technology and Management programmes. The paper recommends that NBTE should sustain the tempo and further improve the mechanisms for its accreditation programme.
