INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY CHALLENGES IN OFFICE TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT OPTION OF BUSINESS EDUCATION PROGRAMME
Abstract
Once in a while educational programmes are reviewed to accommodate changes that come with time. Office Technology and Management which was otherwise known as Secretarial Administration was given its new name in order to suit the activities performed by the secretary in today’s automated office. But the bone of contention here is not on the already changed name rather on how to achieve
the purpose of the change. Has ICT taken its full place in Office Technology and Management (OTM)s? The paper examined information and commutation Technology challenges in office Technology and Management option of Business Education programme. It came up with a conclusion that OTM in colleges of education are yet to embrace fully the presence of ICT. The paper therefore
recommends among others that ICT resources should be made available for colleges of Education offering OTM programme.ICT programme of business education should be reviewed so as to ensure balance between the ICT driven curriculum in the polytechnics and colleges of education. Again lecturers of OTM should embrace the change by upgrading their skills in order to fit in with the
modern trend.
