DOMICILIATION STATUS OF ACCOUNTING COURSES OFFERED IN BUSINESS EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF SELECTED TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN THE SOUTH EAST OF NIGERIA

Abstract

This paper studied the domiciliation status of accounting courses offered in accounting education option of business education. Two research questions guided the study. The population of the study comprised of the business educators in Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki; Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and Enugu State University of Technology, Enugu. The entire population of 25 lecturers in the department of business education of the universities was used. A structured questionnaire was administered to the respondents and all of them were filled correctly and returned. The research questions were answered using percentage. It was indicated that all the undergraduate and post graduate courses in the questionnaire were agreed to be domiciled in accountancy
department of faculty of management sciences. The implications of the study is that since these accounting courses are housed outside business education department, the quality of instruction of the accounting courses cannot be moderated by the department of business; moreover it will lead to reduction of employment opportunities for graduates of accounting education The researchers therefore recommend a programme review for all the universities offering accounting option to ensure that their graduate and post graduate accounting courses are domiciled under business education.
