COMPETENCIES REQUIRED BY BUSINESS EDUCATION LECTURERS AND INSTRUCTORS FOR EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES IN COLLEGES OF EDUCATION IN SOUTH-EAST, NIGERIA
Abstract
The study investigated challenges and competencies required by Business Education lecturers and instructors for effective management of instructional resources in Colleges of Education in South-east, Nigeria. Two research questions were answered while two hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted survey research design. The sample for the study was 107 respondents comprising 92 Business education lecturers and 15 instructors. Instrument for data collection was a 30-item structured questionnaire. The instrument was face-validated by three experts while reliability was established using Crobach Alpha reliability technique which yielded a coefficient of 0.891. Data were collected with the help of six research assistants and the data were analysed using mean and t-test statistics. Based on the data collected and analysed, the study identified 9 challenges in effective management of instructional resources and 20 competencies required by Business education lecturers and instructors for effective management of instructional resources. The study among others therefore recommended that states and federal governments through the ministries of education should package the identified instructional resource management competencies into workshop materials for retraining Business education lecturers and instructors for effective use of instructional resources.
