GENERIC SKILL ACQUISITION AND THE REALIZATION OF THE GOALS OF BUSINESS EDUCATION IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES: IMPLICATIONS FOR CURRICULUM INNOVATION
Abstract
This paper focused on generic skill acquisition and the realization of the goals of business education in Nigerian universities: Implications for curriculum Innovation. It examined the overview of generic skills, conceptualization of business education, business education curriculum and goals as well as acquisition of generic skills through business education curriculum. Based on the discussions in the work, the researchers concluded that there is need for business education students to possess generic skills viz-a-viz hard skills to enable them secure, sustain and advance on any job. This will, no doubt, enable graduates to become self- reliant and to have competitive edge. It was recommended, among others that curriculum planners should review the curriculum to cover generic skills; business educators should incorporate generic skills in their day to day activities; professional bodies such as Association of Business Educators of Nigeria (ABEN), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and so on are called to buttress the need for acquisition of generic skills by the students.
