COLLEGIALITY TEACHING STRATEGY: A MEANS OF PROMOTING LECTURERS DELIVERY PERFORMANCE FOR QUALITY ASSURANCE
Abstract
The need to improve the quality of instructional delivery to ensure quality assurance in tertiary institutions necessitated this study. The study investigated how collegiality teaching strategy can be used for improving lecturers’ performance for quality assurance. One research question and one null hypothesis guided the study. The study adopted survey research design and110 business education lecturers from four public tertiary institutions offering business education programme in Anambra State were studied without sampling. A-10 items structured questionnaire validated by three experts in the field of Business Education and Measurement and Evaluation Unit was used for data collection. The reliability of the instrument was established using trial-test while Cronbach alpha formula was used to calculate the correlation coefficient which yielded value of .86. The researchers personally administered copies of the questionnaires on the respondents with the help of two research assistants. Data collected was analyzed using mean and standard deviation while t-test was used to test the null hypothesis at.05 level of significance. Findings showed that respondents agree that collegiality promotes lecturers’ delivery performance for quality assurance. Type of institution was not a significant factor on how collegiality promotes lecturers’ delivery performance for quality assurance. Based on the findings of the study, the researchers concluded that effective implementation of collegiality in business education programme in tertiary institutions can promote lecturers’ delivery performance for quality assurance of the programme. It was recommended among others that; administrators of tertiary institutions should organize regular training and re-training programmes for business educators on how to develop effective collegial system in their various departments.
