ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION IN NIGERIA: ISSUES, CHALLENGES AND STRATEGIES
Abstract
This presentation is an attempt to discuss entrepreneurship education in Nigeria. Without recourse to subterfuge, an entrepreneurship – based educational system should continue to be topical in our national discussion up until Nigeria educational policy makers ensure that Nigeria education is entrepreneurially driven. A mono-reliant economy such as we have in Nigeria is like a dance staged on the cliff-edge. Few years of a steep decline in oil prices, Nigeria macroeconomics has been afflicted, infected and affected on all fronts. One of the worst hit is unemployment. The 2014 immigration recruitment exercise, the 2015 Cross-River Forest Police recruitment exercise and the 2016 npower
recruitments are instances that indicate that there is no illumination at the end of the tunnel. A way out, as espoused in this paper, will be to revisit the Nigerian educational system. Since a society is as good as its educational content, the sub-sector has to be mainstreamed with an entrepreneurial bent, such that its
products will be prepared to combine the virtues of knowledge, attitude and hands-on-skills to maximize the diverse natural resources of the country.
