RELEVANT DIGITAL SKILLS NEEDED BY BUSINESS EDUCATION LECTURERS FOR EFFECTIVE DELIVERY IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN IMO STATE

Abstract


The study x-rayed relevant digital skills needed by Business education lecturers for effective delivery in tertiary institutions in Imo State. The researchers used two (2) research questions and a null hypothesis to guide the study. The descriptive survey design was adopted for the study, while the population under study comprised eighty six (86) Business Education lecturers in three tertiary institutions in Imo State namely Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri; Federal Polytechnic,  Nekede; and Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo. The entire population was used by the researchers since the population was manageable. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from the respondents. The questionnaire was validated by two experts, while the reliability test used yielded a coefficient of 0.78. Mean and Standard Deviation were used to analyse the data collected and the t-test statistics was used to test the null hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. It was found out among others that, digital skills are highly needed by Business Education lecturers for evaluating and enhancing classroom instruction delivery in tertiary institutions in Imo State and that Business education lecturers' gender did not significantly influence the ratings of the respondents. It was recommended among others that, Business education lecturers should engage in digital skills training and re-training for effective delivery and have to utilize such digital skills in delivering their lecture.
