VOCATIONALISATION OF TVET THROUGH INSTITUTION INDUSTRY COLLABORATION: BRIDGING THE SKILL GAP
Abstract
Globally, high demand for skill both for self-employment and paid employment has rendered millions of people jobless with no discipline in the academic sense spared. This is further compounded by the speed at which new techniques and of course, emerging technologies beckons for update of skills to handle competently corresponding tasks. Consequently, institutions providing the knowledge and skills as well as work and business environment at which these knowledge and skills are applied can no longer exist in isolation but to work collaboratively to bridge the skill gap created by this fast-changing techniques and technologies. Vocationalisation of TVET stands unique in creating an atmosphere to harness training potentials both at the formal and informal /non-formal basis. This discourse justifies approaches for collaborations between TVET institutions and employers to bridge skill gap
