CHALLENGES AND STRATEGIC MEASURES FOR APPLICATION OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN BUSINESS EDUCATION RESEARCH IN NIGERIAN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS

Abstract


The study examined the challenges and strategic measures for application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Business Education research in Nigerian tertiary institutions. The study was carried out in South-south Nigeria using two out of the six states in the region namely Bayelsa and Delta states. Through multistage random sampling technique, 143 Business Education lecturers and 32 Business Education Instructors making a total of 175 respondents were sampled for the study. The instrument for data collection was a structured 30-items questionnaire. The instrument was subjected to content and face-validation. Three experts in the department Business Education, University Of Delta, Agbor validated the instrument. The reliability of the instrument was ascertained using Cronbach Alpha reliability method which yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.846. Data for the study were collected by the researcher with the help of six research assistants. Out of the 175 copies of the questionnaire administered to the respondents, 168 copies were retrieved representing 96% rate of return. The Data collected was analyzed, using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions while t-test statistics was used in test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. From the data collected and analyzed , the results identified 15 possible challenges in the application of Artificial Intelligence in Business Education research and 12 strategic measures for application of Artificial Intelligence in Business Education research. The result of the hypotheses tested revealed significant (p<0.05) difference in the mean ratings of Business Education Lecturers and Instructors on challenges in the application of Artificial Intelligence in Business Education research whereas on the strategic measures for application of Artificial Intelligence in Business Education research, there is no significant (p<0.05) difference in the mean ratings of the responses of Business Education Lecturers and Instructors. Based on the findings, the study among others recommended that formulation of necessary Artificial Intelligence related policy for driving application of Artificial Intelligence in Nigerian education and research conducts.
