AVAILABILITY AND UTILIZATION OF NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR TEACHING OFFICE TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT IN DELTA STATE POLYTECHNICS
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the availability and utilization of new technologies for teaching OTM in Delta State Polytechnics, Nigeria. A survey research design was adopted. The population comprised 34 OTM lecturers in Delta State Polytechnics. Two research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study. The study used a four-point rating scale questionnaire with 20 items each in two clusters. The instrument was validated by three experts and it obtained a reliability coefficient of 0.86 after being tested with the use of Cronbach Alpha. Data collected were analysed using mean and standard deviation for answering the research questions and ANOVA for testing the
null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that new technologies needed for the success and effective teaching of OTM are not adequately provided and as such, utilization as a function of availability has been hindered in Delta State Polytechnics. Recommendations were made, among others that new technologies needed for teaching OTM programme should be adequately provided by the polytechnics management and the government to ensure effective instructional process.
